Linda McGuigan is Deputy Director of the Centre for Research In Primary Science and Technology. Her background is in cognitive developmental psychology. She was formerly a primary teacher. In 1989 she joined CRIPSAT as a teacher fellow. After several years as an educational researcher at the Centre working on the SPACE (Science Processes and Concept Exploration) project and national curriculum evaluation for the National Curriculum Council, she moved to the University of Warwick as an early years tutor on the undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. In 1989, she returned to CRIPSAT to manage the KS2 science national assessment project for England and Wales.

Linda currently manages CRIPSAT’s contribution to science national assessment - the development of scientific enquiry items for national tests at KS2 (2003-2006) and KS3 (2003-2005).  The remit includes the development of optional task materials for assessment at KS2 and KS3.

Lindaís most recent publications include Assessing Progress in Science, (co-authored with Terry Russell). These materials aim to help teachers looking for support in adopting a formative assessment approach to their teaching of science.

Linda is also involved with on-line support for assessment through an e-learning project that explores the possibility of encouraging practicing teachers and student teachers to contribute their formative assessment experiences and learning outcomes to shared a web-based resource.

Linda has also conducted evaluations and contributed to teacher development programmes in Malawi, South Africa and Slovenia.
