Year 3 Skills Assessment Materials (SAMs)
Commissioned by DCELLS, Welsh Assembly Government, CRIPSAT has developed Skills Assessment Materials (SAMs) for Year 3 learners in Wales. This project started in January 2010 will take forward the Welsh Assembly emphasis on the development of literacy, numeracy and thinking skills. It will also align with the Foundation phase pedagogy, explore the scope for metacognitive behaviour amongst the target age group and touch on real world interests. These multimedia materials are capable of being made available on line or by DVD.
KS2 Science Website
The Welsh Assembly Government, through its Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) commissioned CRIPSAT to develop a comprehensive set of digital activities to support teaching and learning in KS2 science. The bilingual activities cover the Key Stage two science curriculum in innovative ways and aim to embed the principles of the Skills Framework in learning and teaching. Each activity, promotes interactions either between learners or between learners and their teachers. The materials use a variety of starting points including video and audio clips as well as classifying activities and mind maps. There are familiar and novel examples of thinking tools and many opportunities for learners to carry out their own enquiries either independently or as a group. Questioning and opportunities for discussion and debate are important features of the materials. Additionally, learners are encouraged to reflect and evaluate their own learning and that of their peers.

KS2 Science Enquiries through Play
The Centre has secured funding from Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) to develop inspiring and engaging digital science materials that promote science enquiry through play.
These materials aim to support teaching and learning of Y3 learners. The materials are being produced in collaboration with teachers and learners in Years 2 & 3. Delivery of the materials will be April 2012.
Development of Skills Profles
The Welsh Assembly Government, through its Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) has commissioned CRIPSAT to oversee the development of an innovative project for the electronic recording of learners’ Skills Profiles in Wales, in line with the new process-based curriculum.
The solution offers a web-based environment built by Connect Internet Solutions. The Skills Profiles comprise a set of digital tools to support teachers’ planning, recording and reporting of learners’ skills development in Developing Thinking, Number and Communication. The system will allow teachers to upload multi-media materials as supporting evidence of learners’ achievements.
Empirical data from two Pilot phases, has resulted in a bi-lingual, web-based tool with the capability to support teaching and learning.
