Pemberton Neighbourhood Project - e-learning in the community

The Pemberton Neighbourhood Project (PNP), based in the Woodchurch Methodist Church in Woodchurch, Wirral, aims to help deliver services based on the Woodchurch Estateís community need, by supporting access to education, training and support services. In recent years Woodchurch Methodist Church has housed a range of community learning and support groups such as adult literacy, drug abuse rehabilitation and youth clubs.

PNP, in partnership with University of Liverpool and Connect Internet Solutions, is developing four e-learning courses to enhance greatly capacity to attract and retain new learners from the community. These courses are:

1. Healthy Living/Healthy Eating (Wirral Healthy Communities).
2. Basic CV Writing, Presentation Skills (Action for Jobs).
3. Parenting Skills (Pemberton Neighbourhood Project).
4. Armchair Exercises.

CRIPSAT's Education Liaison Team will offer expertise in helping Pemberton's non-technical learning providers to gain know-how in developing relevant, exciting and effective e-learning resources through their CourseMaker application. Connect Internet Solutions provides the necessary virtual infrastructure, through hosting and supporting a Pemberton eLearning Place website. This website will enable administration of all e-learning resources developed, the learning providers and their learners.

It is anticipated that as a result of improving training facilities the project will contribute more to reduce the economic and social disparities and create a more informed, healthy and active community within the Woodchurch area, resulting in raised levels of confidence/self-esteem and better employment prospects for local people.
