CRIPSAT is a major centre for research in Primary Science.
This research, carried out in collaboration with teachers, forms the basis for the Centre's support work for schools.
Recent CRIPSAT commitments have included:

  • a national evaluation of the implementation of National curriculum Science at Key Stages 1 and 2;

  • the S.P.A.C.E project research into children's ideas in science which led to the development of the Nuffield Primary Science scheme;

  • the writing of distance learning materials to provide background science for primary teachers;

  • the development of teacher support materials for Interactive Science Centres (Jodrell Bank and the Liverpool Maritime Museum, for example);

  • the provision of 10 and 20-day Science INSET courses for primary teachers;

  • national testing of National Curriculum Science at Key Stage 2;

  • the development of formative assessment materials at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 for Wales.

Support Services Offered

CRIPSAT seeks to meet the specific needs of your school and offers a range of provision including:

Venues

CRIPSAT is happy to provide its service at your school or any other site booked by you.
Alternatively, if you would prefer, workshops can be run on University premises.

Costs

Fees would be negotiated with your school and would depend upon the nature of the service provided.
eg: Workshops, Twilight Courses, Consultancy.

Material and any travel associated with the running of courses are charged at cost.

CRIPSAT is willing to make an initial, no-cost visit to any school considering using its services.

Such a visit would enable the school to satisfy itself that its science education needs could be met by CRIPSAT and enable CRIPSAT to ensure that any agreed services are tailored specifically to these needs.

CRIPSAT is happy to work with single schools or, in consideration of the present financial climate, with two or three small schools jointly.

In addition to school-based INSET, CRIPSAT in conjunction with the University's Department of Education offers longer courses for teachers.

These courses have University accreditation and can be used as units within certificate, Diploma or Masters' Degree programmes.

Should you require any further information about CRIPSAT's services please do not hesitate to contact Professor T J Russell on 0151 794 3270 or Email T.J.Russell@liv.ac.uk.
